Musical Director

Jonathan Milne became the Musical Director of Da Capo Concert Band in September, 2008.  Born in Windsor, he began playing the flute at the age of ten. His interest in military music was initially sparked by his first flute teacher, Blues and Royals Principal Flautist, Con Andrews.

In October, 1989, he followed his mentor and enlisted into the Band of The Blues and Royals as a flautist.  During his time with the band, he completed the six month equitation course and took part in all major ceremonial events, including The Queen’s Birthday Parade, Investitures at Buckingham Palace, State Visits, The Royal Tournament, and both VE and VJ day celebrations.

For 1991, Jonathan attended the one year Pupil’s Course at the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall, which culminated in him winning the Cousins Memorial Medal for the best instrumental performer during that year.  He then returned to Kneller Hall to undertake the three year Bandmaster Course, and together with a BMus (Hons) Degree as a result of his studies, he successfully graduated in August, 2002.

Following his graduation, Jonathan was appointed Bandmaster of the Highland Band of the Scottish Division, travelling extensively throughout Europe, conducting on a ceremonial and international stage, including appearances at the Palace of Holyrood House, and on the Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

January, 2006, saw Jonathan become the Bandmaster to The Band of the Corps of Royal Engineers.  During his two years with the Band, he performed nationally and internationally, including the inaugural FA Cup Final in the new Wembley Stadium, Berlin, Vienna, Gibraltar and Abu Dhabi.

Come May, 2008, and Jonathan returned to the Royal Military School of Music, where he is currently appointed as Training Design Warrant Officer.

As well as undertaking all these very active musical and Military accolades, he also enjoys a family life with his wife Debbie, and their two children, Ellie-Jane and Abigail.
